KUSC Interactive is a department of USC Radio dedicated to producing innovative platforms for dialogue and discovery in the global arts community.
KUSC Interactive has produced many apps that promote dynamic storytelling on new media devices, such as iPhone, iPad, Android and through streaming services, like Spotify. These projects present new opportunities for exploration and collaboration for music fans everywhere.
Classical KUSC is the largest and most listened to public radio and non-profit classical music station in the country. KUSC is dedicated to preserving classical music as a living art. Located in downtown Los Angeles, Classical KUSC uses digital transmission technology to broadcast commercial-free uninterrupted classical performances. The non-profit, listener-supported station has been broadcasting for over 60 years.
GeoTunes is about all the relationships between music and the world around you. Using Spotify's vast catalog of music as fuel, Geotunes displays songs written about cities, landmarks, events and more on an interactive map for users to explore. Themed playlists also tell hidden stories behind songs and connect interesting tunes to their not-so-obvious geolocations.
Carnegie Hall, the Vienna State Opera, Barcelona's Palau Musica Catalana... so many beautiful venues, such little time! With WorldVenues, however, music fans can explore the world of performance halls from the comfort of an iPad. Using an interactive map, music fans can virtually visit the best and brightest venues across the globe by viewing photos, watching live performances, reading brief histories and more.
We believe more you know, the more you hear... and Soundsnips helps listeners learn without interruption! From identifying what exactly a theremin sounds like to telling the strange history of the world's most famous composers, Soundsnips shows quick "snips" of context and music theory while you listen -- without disturbing the flow of music.
KUSC Interactive maintains both KUSC and KDFC's streaming apps, available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. These apps feature program schedules, social media links and instant access to KUSC and KDFC's on-air broadcasts and recorded podcasts.
KDFC's mission is to produce and deliver classical music which educates and informs the general public concerning classical music as an art form, and serves as an enriching cultural experience which will uplift the human spirit and foster listeners' lifelong appreciation of classical music and other arts experiences available to them.
